Tam's Link Crew is committed to helping all students new to Tam find their place in our community.
At Tam, we believe that everyone has a place, that everyone belongs. And we are here to help new students find their place. ~ Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes both freshmen and new students. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, Link Crew trains members of the junior and senior class to be Link Leaders. As positive role models, Link Leaders motivate and guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during their transitional year at Tam.
Link Crew increases student success; more and more studies are showing that if students have a positive experience their first year in high school, their chances of success are exponential. Link Crew provides the structure for freshmen and new students to receive support and guidance from juniors and seniors who have been through the challenges high school poses and understand that the transition may be overwhelming.
Some degree of challenge during this transition to high school is inevitable. Feeling alone during this time is not.
For Incoming 9th Graders:
9th Grade Orientation: Link Crew welcomes the incoming class of 9th graders with a fun, dynamic orientation assembly and day of activities. On this day, Link Leaders welcome 9th graders and help them acclimate to Tam's campus. Students will have the opportunity to get to know a small group of their peers, ask Link Leaders questions about life at Tam, take a tour of campus, and find their classes before the first day of school.
If you or your student has registered as an incoming freshmen, you will receive further information as we get closer to August. If you have questions, email Link Crew Coordinator Abbey Levine at [email protected].
9th Grade Advisory: All Tam students have two 1 hour study hall periods during their week called Tutorial. During this time, students can study, work on homework, meet with teachers, and meet with their peers to work on group projects. For 9th graders, once a month, this time is also dedicated to providing them the tools they will need to succeed at Tam. Led by the Link Leaders they were matched with at 9th Grade Orientation, 9th graders will have the chance to participate in activities designed to help 9th graders learn more about how Tam works.
Additionally, this time is structured to help build a strong supportive community for the 9th graders. Link Leaders are available to help students with academic, social, and social emotional issues that may arise, or to connect them with the appropriate resources available on campus. Link Crew Social and Academic Events: Throughout the school year, Link Crew hosts a variety of events to help 9th graders meet other students and get the academic support that they need.
For Incoming 10th - 12th Graders:
Link Crew also welcomes any new student transferring to Tam, regardless of grade level. Each year we host a New Student Orientation for incoming 10th - 12th graders the day before school starts. You'll get more info on this when you register at Tam.
Transitioning in the middle of the school year? Link Crew also welcomes any new student transferring to Tam, regardless of grade level. Students who are new to Tam receive a tour of campus from a Link Leader and Link Crew works to help connect new students with peers who can help them adjust to life at Tam. When a new student registers at Tam, Link Crew is notified by the counseling department.
If you or your student will be transferring to Tam in the future and you'd like us to reach out ahead of time, email Link Crew Coordinator Abbey Levine at [email protected].
