Our Selection Process: We work hard to create a fair and thorough selection process for our Link Leaders.
1 - Written Application: Students respond to questions about their interest in Link Crew, experiences at Tam, and personality and character. Because we know that different students have different strengths and talents, we provide multiple options for this component of the application process. Students can submit their responses in written form, in video form, or in some kind of visual art form.
Each application is read and scored by two different Link Crew Coordinators.
2 - Interview: Everyone who applies to Link Crew receives an interview. The Link Crew interview is a unique experience - our goal is to watch how students interact with their peers because, ultimately, the best Link Leaders are ones who are able to build positive relationships with their peers and who are able to create a collaborative, supportive, inclusive spaces. During our interview students participate in 4 different group activities and we observe students' active listening skills, collaboration skills, presentation skills, and comfort level with a group of new people.
Interviews are observed and students are scored by three different Link Crew Coordinators.
3 - Additional Factors: While the application and the interview scores are the main components of our selection process, we also take into consideration teacher feedback, attendance data, student demographics and backgrounds, and student participation in other Tam Unity Leadership programs.
Link Crew Class The Link Crew class is an option for students who have been selected as Link Leaders. The class meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 7:15am - 8:20am and is an interactive, positive way to start your day! Students in the class received more in-depth leadership training, plan our events for 9th graders, and have a greater role in addressing the direction of our program each year. The Link Class is a small community of Link Leaders who are exceptionally passionate about creating an inclusive space at Tam - if you are selected, we hope you'll join us!
